Hampton, 89, pioneer Polk County citizen, died about 2 o’clock this morning (Monday) at home at East Flat Rock, Hen ^J^son county. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Feagan, in Columbus. Dr. L. T. Wiles of Hendersonville Pres byterian church and Rev. D. M. McGeachy will officiate. Interment in the old family plot at Sandy springs. Mr. Hampton was the son of the late J. W. and Sophronia Wil liams Hampton, pioneers of this section. He was a prominent farmer and merchant. His first wife was the former Harriet Mc Farland, the mother of all his children. She died about 33 years ago. He is survived by his second wife, Mrs. Nannie Arnold Hamp ton and the following sons and daughters: John Hampton of Raeford, N. C., Mrs. J. A. Feagan r jtColumbus, Mrs. F. E. Waldrop Mrs. Joe Hodge of Rutherford, ton; Gray, Patrick and Dock Hampton of Huntington, W. Va., and Mrs. Jack Arnold of Ports mouth, Virginia. The pallbearers will be his grandsons: Carl and C. W. Wal drop, Hubert and J. C. Hodge, Archie Feagan and John Doggett. Rutherford-Polk Rationing Boards to Meet Tuesday A joint meeting of the Ruther ford and Polk county rationing boards will be held Tuesday night at 8 o’clock at the Rutherford courthouse. Robert Bailey of Asheville will discuss and answer questions. MRS. JULIA PAGE Mrs. Julia Page, 78, of Colum bus widow of the late Charles E. Page, died Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Ormand, in Columbus, after a lingering illness. 'Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o’clock at the Columbus Baptist church, conduct ed by the pastor, Rev. H. F. Bean and Rev. D. M. McGeachy. The pallbearers: John A. Arledge, Ed Newman, R. S. McFarland, Donald Spurlin, Joe Tallent, W. C. Hague. Mrs. Page is survived by two children, a daughter, Mrs. Or mand, and a son, Charles Bostic Page; and several grand chil dren. The deceased was the former Miss Julia Hill, daughter of the late Noah and Elizabeth Hannon Hill, members of pioneer Polk county families. Lieutenant Bates Called Lieutenant Thomas Edward Bates, whose engagement to Miss Peggy Lincoln, was announced on Saturday, and who was not ex pected to report at Fort Warren, Wyoming, for army duty until July 6th, received telegraph or ders on Sunday to report imme diately. He left early this morn ing for Fort Bragg, N. C. George Cooksey In Air Force George Cooksey, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Cooksey of Tryon, has volunteered for the Army Air Free and left Tryon on Sunday. Young Cooksey is a graduate of Tryon high school, attended Wof ford college, and for the past year has been employed at a pulp plant at Georgetown, S. C.
